The Scottish Environmental Technology Network

welcome to intelligent buildings

We are a dynamic young company offering cutting edge building automation, multimedia networking solutions and distributed audio and video systems to both residential and commercial clients throughout the UK.

We are passionate about the ability of intelligent automation systems to significantly reduce building energy consumption which is good not only for the environment but our clients pockets as well.

One of the keys to our success lies in the fact that we are first and foremost a cable infrastructure led company, one of our guiding philosophies is "get the cable behind the walls right then it will cope with whatever is thrown at it" after all we expect an installed wiring system in a building to last between twenty to thirty years.

We use the very latest in proven copper cabling soloutions to ensure that not only are our installations are not only as futureproof as we can make them but they also reduce our consumption of the earth's valuable resources - our use of CAT8 (Category 8) cable is just one of the myriad of innovations we have helped to pioneer here in the UK spearheading the leap forward in single cable type Multimedia signal distribution being capable of carrying up to 1200Mhz (1.2Ghz) analogue signals and over 10Gbits of digital information. Removing the need to install a plethora of different cable types with all the attendant cost implications.

Our decision to fully adopt KNX (konnex) as our principle building management protocol last year has given us a degree flexibility and adaptability over lighting and heating control that we never thought possible. Integrating seamlessly with other building systems like security, access control and blind and window control this generic control system is almost infintie in its application from a single bedroom flat in Leeds to controlling the lighting in a project like Terminal 5 at Heathrow nothing phases it. Lending itself to the most luxury of penthouse developments where every decadent whim and fancy is catered for to the exacting control of some of the most hallowed halls of learning in Europe where a 50% reduction in energy was delivered through use of this exiting technology.

Whatever your needs, whatever you are looking for feel with your project please feel free to get in touch with us for advice, information or pricing.

"Building Technology from Gira - Attractive and intelligent"

Or a possible alternative title "A trip through Toyland". We were sent this as part of a DVD presentation by Gira demonstrating their stunning range of products for KNX. We were impressed enough with it to decide to share it with you - so take a few moment to sit back, relax and appreciate the design possibilities it presents, they may be only switches but they are really nice switches. Please be aware this is a large, high quality video file (44Mb) so please allow a few moments for it to buffer - the slower your ADSL connection the longer it will take.

"Our Scottish Borders"

You will notice that we have added the "Our Scottish Borders" branding to our website. This regional branding will also be used in our promotional material - To us as a Borders based company this 'branding' sums up all that is great about the region that we hail from.

As a group we Borderers tend to be fairly independently minded, ferociously passionate about subjects close to our heart and posess a strong sense of community about our region. These regional character traits come from the fact that the Borders is steeped in history and that we have the priviledge to live in one of the most stunningly beautiful areas of the British Isles - mind you we would say that!

The "Our Scottish Borders" site is a gateway to a whole host of other sites that together provide a comprehensive resource of information about living, working, studying, visiting and investing in the Scottish Borders.

"Get rid of the Spaghetti!"

Simplify your home and remove the clutter.

We supply a range of products from Singlepoint Networks that utilizes 1.2Ghz twisted pair data cable (CAT8) to distribute your MultiMedia signals around your home of small office.

At a central location you will have all the main incoming services that are normally provided to a home, such as master BT telephone socket, TV aerial, etc. These central services can be routed to any room, often to multiple rooms

Incoming signals, whether they are from aerials, telephone sockets or any other devices situated throughout the house, are routed to the patch media cabinet. Here, using leads, they are cross-connected and re-routed to where you are relaxing or working and want to listen, talk, see or play.

Any device can be connected to any room either as a source or as a destination. It does this by means of very high specification patch cables.

There is no software to go wrong. There is no complicated configuration process and if you follow the instructions you can even install it yourself! It's simply down to the capability of the cable itself and how you have organised access into the rooms of your home.

We have been supplying and installing these networks up and down the UK of several years now and we feel that there nothing else on the market to match its capabilities or its flexibility.

Have a look at our networking pages for more information on this innovative and flexible copper cable technology.

"You should expect more from a building than just a roof over your head!"

All this and more is possible thanks to intelligent and networked systems based upon the Konnex/EIB standard. Although the phrase "Intelligent Building" may sound like something from science fiction, it can be put to use by facilities managers and end users to provide control over our living and working environment. It can provide building users with the optimum indoor environment, integrating control over functions such as heating, lighting, ventilation, blinds, windows, security systems including alarms, timers and even panic buttons.

The beauty of this system is its simplicity, there is no requirement for a highly sophisticated
control system as every device on the network has intelligence built in. Today's facilities manager or home owner can also benefit from one of the latest developments within Konnex/EIB technology - the ability to control and monitor all building services from one desktop PC. If required, this information can also be made available on mobile devices such as PDA's.
